About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener’s mother, and “inox,” or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer’s and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

The Huntsman Knife 2 is a very useful tool. The blades are sharp and the right size for light duty tasks. The saw is a bit thinner than I expected, but I have no reason to doubt that is durability. The scissors are amazing and probably will do away with them more.

The handle material is new. It seems that a filled nylon plastic, and is not reflective and easier to grip. I think it’s more practical than the other type of handle for actual use … but does not look so nice and feels a little cheaper.

The flashlight is nice too. Extremely bright light and focused. The handle is nicely textured, and it just looks well designed.

We have this for our son (12), who hates writing, including homework, and he uses Dragon successfully. He took the time to calibrate it for yourself and your voice is important. He usually uses it with MS Word for school from home, but sometimes with other programs.

We also bought additional (Koss) headphones, as suggested on the product page itself, but found that the program comes with headphones, I did not realize (or have I missed or is not stated there, I’m not sure and did not matter). The headphones that comes with it works well, you do not need to buy another set, but the additional set is nicer, more comfortable, more durable and a little look, let’s see.

I used the family members’ e-reader Kindle, even with a couple in the last two years. But I could never justify throwing down an e-reader for me so far. There are many reasons, including convenience. But the biggest factor was probably the savings, when I learned about the new Amazon Prime program. Below is a summary of the decision points I have considered. I hope this is helpful in your decision:

Cheaper than Paper – If you consider that Kindle-edition books are often the least expensive form of Amazon, even for new releases, if you read regularly is a breeze. But this is simple math. There are plenty of books available at low cost or free. And the most impressive thing is the new Prime Lending. Top with a subscription, you can borrow relatively new bestseller for free (up to 1 month). Understanding does this six times a year at $ 9.99 each, which covers only the cost of the device during a 2-3 year old. Throw in lending library, which varies by area, but it is fairly widely available, as well as book loans friend for a maximum of 14 days, and there are also more cost saving options.

Convenience – When traveling with paper books, I always fretting carrying a book that was close to then end up like I need a second well. With the Kindle, I always have all my books in one place. I also think I read in places that otherwise would not have: At medical examinations, to have my car serviced, waiting for someone in the car. The Kindle is so easy to take with me that I almost always have it.

3G or WiFi – This was a difficult decision for me as I do not travel alone sufficient to justify the extra cost 3G $ 50. But when I considered the convenience of being able to buy / borrow books from all over the world, has become attractive. Add the new Prime Lending program, where you can not have more than one at a time, and made even more sense. I hope that Amazon Kindle newspaper and magazine subscriptions become more affordable with a price. Another advantage for 3G is able to wiki (works great with the new X-ray functionality) or otherwise research something in motion, as well as keeping Whispersync updated. A change, as observed by others, is that this latest generation of Kindle does not allow web browsing on 3G conneciton (WiFi only). Not a huge deal for me since the web browser is very rudimentary, but it would be nice to have the basic functionality when traveling abroad. For me it was worth the $ 50 one-off payment for your convenience.

Special offers – special offers are limited because as the Kindle is off and the menu screen is not very intrusive. Also, I do not mind always has the right to the Kindle. Once again, 3G is nice here because it can act on it right then and there rather than wait until it has a wifi connection. I guess I’m bombarded with ads on my TV, Internet, and everywhere in between. So if this is something that I do not care, I just tune out.

Touch – Based on my experience with family members 3s Kindle is a great improvement over the joystick if you make a text entry nicer and more generally for navigation. It also makes unpleasant reading based Kindle and brings back to the competitive landscape (B & N, Sony, etc. all contact offer). The Touch Dual, no competition yet, allowing pinch to zoom, very good to PDFs and other documents. You can also tap on a word and look it up for the xray capabilities immediately. Plus you save the results of the physical space of the keyboard in a smaller device. A feature on the competition (which rhymes with book) are the physical buttons turn the page like a no-touch option. I think this would add a nice touch to the Kindle so that one has the ability to turn pages via touch buttons or side.

Tablet or e-reader – I have discussed this long and difficult. In the end I wanted the long battery life and easy on the eyes e-reader. The much lighter weight and size makes the Kindle practice for long periods of reading (evidence that in an iPad or Galaxy). The lower cost and a tight integration Amazon are also top of mind. I take the plunge on a tablet for the next year, but plans to use more for media consumption and web browsing. And for games for children. I like the fact that I can give my young daughter to read books in bed without worrying about who is playing or watching videos. Furthermore, at this price and for my notes above, the Kindle pays for itself so there is a decision “oo”.

Case or Sleeve – Touch The Kindle has a wonderful feeling to it naked in his hand, so I chose not to have a cover attached and instead get the neoprene sleeve Built. As a side note, the built-in compass is great, although a bit ‘too expensive for what it is. I’m pretty careful with my mail and do not even put my smartphone under a cover. For gifts to members more prone to accidents of my family, I decided to cover them. I also read very good reviews of the Kindle cover lit, which will be released soon.

On the negative, not surprisingly this edition includes an AC adapter. It comes with a USB cable. Most smartphones are equipped with the latest USB AC adapters so it’s not really a big problem for me. I simply connect the USB cable into a computer to load and I’m fine for what appears to be a very long time (I have not had long enough to call, but it seems reasonable to claim 2 months). On the positive side, I bet that most people fail to buy an extra charger, thus saving millions of chargers landfills in the coming years.

this is a large tablet. A bit ‘slow power-up, as most Vizio products, but once it works great. Easy to use with the Android store, the applications we hope to catch up with the VTAB .. A lot of applications I wanted, does not work or download from the Android store.

The biggest problem is the power connector fragile unity (micro USB). If you plan on using it while plugged in, be careful! This thing is tho it seems to break with little or no pressure on it. Be sure to extend your warranty or get insurance on it!

I received my expansion disk very quickly by the seller. I just bought a 250 gig because my computer is only a 80 gig so I thought there would be plenty of space and there is. It works in the background and I do not even know her, except once in a while a box ‘approaches and tells me I’m up to 100%. I can also go through Windows Explorer and drag and drop stuff that if I want. I tried the seagate program that automatically does everything for you, but it is only a 30 day trial then you have to pay about $ 30 if you want to keep. I also downloaded the program management by Seagate for free, but have not tried one yet. All in all it works well and I feel like I protected if my computer crashes, it has happened twice before when I lost everything. Great buy in my opinion, all you have to do is decide which format works for you.
This Hard Drive is fast has a lot of capacity for my needs and it’s great. I have a note for those using Apple OS I recommend no change in an MS-DOS format but I can not find the crown of my head and I’m not a computer expert but I think it is called something like extended newspaper. When I redid my operating system to Snow Leopard recently, I did reformat it so it can be used as a time machine on my external hard drive, but the MSDOS format suggested in the works of major revision.

How to Keep Patio Furniture From Flying Away

The wind can be a fickle friend. One moment you’re basking in a breeze that borders on tropical and the next moment your chasing your patio furniture down the street as a tempest rolls out of nowhere.

If you’ve invested in wood, steel or wrought iron patio furniture, you probably don’t have to worry about staying in shape enough to do the 50 yard sprint after an errant chair. But if you have lighter pieces, such as aluminum or plastic, you need to find some way to keep them anchored in your yard, especially when you’re not there to watch over them.

One of the big culprits when it comes to flying furniture is your patio umbrella. If you don’t have It properly anchored it can take your table with it, even one that’s just been set with your fabulous fare. Of course, this is easily preventable. You can buy a weighted base for your umbrella. Usually, these bases are filled with sand or water and will keep your umbrella from doing a Mary Poppins on you, sailing for points unknown. The weighted base will keep it firmly in place, and your table, too.

Plastic chairs are a little more difficult to keep under control. When they’re not in use, it’s a good idea to keep them stacked up. This adds a little more heft to their otherwise airy qualities and will keep them from flying away. In a stiff wind they may scoot some across the patio or deck, but they won’t wander too far off.

During events it’s less of a problem since a seated guest will keep them in place just fine. But what if you get up to stretch your legs or go inside for a while? What about your chair? In most cases, no need to worry. These chairs usually take off when there is a straight shot of wind. By the time it winds its way around the other gathered guests, a sudden wind won’t have the force to take your chair far, if it moves at all. If your chair is gone when you return, better to blame a thieving guest than the wind.

If you plan to store your outdoor patio furniture over the winter months, you’ll want to take some additional measures. Although it isn’t pretty, a cinder block tied to the bottom chair will serve as an effective anchor for a stack of plastic patio chairs. This is even more important if you’ve covered them for the season. The tarp can act like a sail, making your chairs even more likely to wander off.

For a table, it’s best to tip the plastic ones on their side and leave them against the house. This will keep them from blowing around too much, since the table’s large surface is turned against the house and it’s hard for the wind to catch it.

Aluminum chairs aren’t as big of a problem for homeowners, unless you live in a really windy part of the country or are dodging a hurricane down on the Gulf. To keep these chairs in place, a cable or a rope will do. Be sure to attach it or tie it to something sturdy like a deck railing. If you live in a crime ridden area, you can get a lock and cable and kill two birds with one stone, ensuring that your furniture won’t wonder off due to light winds or light fingers.

Ideally, though, it’s best to store lighter furniture away in a shed or in the garage during the off season. If you have an elevated deck, you can always tuck them under it in the winter months, knowing that they will be there waiting for you when the ground thaws and the flowers bloom once again.

Automotive Code Readers and Scan Tools, On-Board Diagnostics!

On-Board Diagnostics, or OBD, in an automotive context, is a generic term referring to a vehicle’s self-diagnostic and reporting capability. OBD systems give the vehicle owner or a repair technician access to state of health information for various vehicle sub-systems.

The amount of diagnostic information available via OBD has varied widely since the introduction in the early 1980′s of on-board vehicle computers, which made OBD possible. Early instances of OBD would simply illuminate a malfunction indicator light, or MIL, if a problem were detectedbut would not provide any information as to the nature of the problem.

Modern OBD implementations use a standardized fast digital communications port to provide myriad realtime data in addition to a standardized series of diagnostic trouble codes, or DTCs, which allow one to rapidly identify and remedy malfunctions within the vehicle.

Automotive Code Readers and Scan Tools

Starting in 2008, a new standard called “CAN” will become mandatory for all vehicles, and some auto manufacturers are already producing CAN-compliant vehicles. OBD II code readers may or may not work with CAN vehicles – check the product detail page to check if the scanner works with OBD II, CAN, or both. Some scanners also work with the older OBD-I standard (for some vehicles from the mid-’80s thru 1995) or other manufacturer-specific formats.
